Latest Breakthroughs in Solid-State Battery Technology and Industrialization Prospects

Multiple automakers and battery companies announce major progress in solid-state battery technology, mass production expected to begin in 2027, which will completely reshape the EV industry landscape.

Solid-state battery technology has recently seen multiple major breakthroughs. Many domestic and foreign companies have announced progress in key technologies, and the industrialization process is accelerating.

From a technical route perspective, sulfide solid-state batteries and oxide solid-state batteries are the current mainstream directions. Companies such as Toyota, BYD, and CATL have invested massive R&D resources in the solid-state battery field and achieved phased results.

In terms of energy density, solid-state batteries are expected to reach 400-500Wh/kg, more than twice that of current liquid lithium batteries, which means EV range can easily exceed 1000km. At the same time, solid-state batteries also have significant improvements in safety, greatly reducing the risk of thermal runaway.

Charging speed is also a major advantage of solid-state batteries, which are expected to achieve 80% charge in 10 minutes, approaching the refueling experience of fuel vehicles.

The industry generally believes that solid-state batteries will begin small-scale mass production around 2027-2028 and achieve large-scale application around 2030. This technological change will profoundly affect the EV industry landscape. Whoever can master solid-state battery technology first will take the initiative in future competition.
